CT Drama Festival

3.11.2018

This weekend, Platt High School hosted the CT Drama Festival. 340 students from 12 schools in CT came and performed on our stage, ate in our newly decorated cafeteria, learned to dance in our gym, and took theatre based workshops on everything from shadow puppetry to yoga in our classrooms. I want to extend a huge thank you to all the people in the building who helped make this process easier and an unqualified success, including the custodial and cafeteria staff, Jill Parkin in the main office,  and Phil Mangiaracina who directed our festival entry this year. The students of the Platt Theatre department, led by Julia Kudewicz, served as the hosts to these hundreds of other students and adults, and people could not stop complimenting me on what a great job they did, how welcoming they were, and how impressed they were with our caliber of students. They were a credit to our school.

Now to the exciting parts! The CT Drama Festival is a competition, and this year's production of Game of Tiaras truly showed Panther Pride! Among the many awards we won were the following:

Theatrical Excellence Award
Outstanding Costume Award
Outstanding Properties Award
Mel Brooks Award
All CT Cast Award- Skylar Mitchell
Honorable Mention Acting Award- Isabella Martin

In addition to the performances, every year the festival includes a separate Technical Design Competition. This year, our very own Megan Pomeroy won first place with her costume designs for Fantasticks!

These students, Mr. Mangiaracina, and I have worked incredibly hard for the past few months to put this show and this festival together. Please congratulate them if you see them on their amazing success.

(Also, if you want to see more from this incredibly talented and award winning theatre program, don't miss Laramie Project performing April 5, 6, & 7)!
