MPS Summer Lifeguarding Class 2022
Meriden Public schools would like to offer Meriden high school students the opportunity to earn a Lifeguard Certificate which would enable them to get a summer job at a local pool or the YMCA/Mountain Mist. Students would be expected to complete online work and in person skill work in the classroom and pool. Students can earn one-half credit for their participation in the course.
Pre-requisites:
- Be at least 15 years of age by the end of the course.
- Complete a 300 yard (12 length swim) non-stop in the pool.
- Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of arms.
- Complete a timed test where the candidate must swim down to the deep end, retrieve a brick from the bottom and return to the shallow end.
Dates:
June 15 1:00- 5:00pm Online Work
June 16-17 10:30-12:30pm Online work 1:30-5:30pm Class/Pool work
June 20-21 10:30-12:30pm Online work 1:30-5:30pm Class/Pool work
June 22 1:30-3:30pm Final Skill Test
To earn a certification, you must attend all classes, pass the online portion, and all in-person skill tests. You must demonstrate a level of maturity and professionalism throughout the course.
